John W. “Jack” Steinbauer, 79, of Clyde died at the University of Toledo Medical Center on Friday, August 28, 2009.



Mr. Steinbauer was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 4, 1930 to the late Robert E. and Coletta (Toeppe) Steinbauer. He moved to this area in 1939 and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Fremont in 1948. He was a farmer in his family business, R.E. Steinbauer and Sons.



Jack was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clyde; Knights of Columbus, Clyde VFW and had been the former president of the Ohio Apple Growers Assoc. He had served with the United States Army during the Korean War. and was a loving father, and grandfather.



Survivors include his wife, Rosemary (Reinhart) Steinbauer, whom he married on January 17, 1953; and their fourteen children:

Mary (Robert) Peak, Fostoria; Catherine (James) Kovaleski, Fremont; Jeannette Steinbauer (Jon Krause), Columbus; Susan (John) Johnson, Chandler, Arizona; John (Cheryl) Steinbauer, Ashland; Linda (Robert Duane) Spencer, Clyde; Donald (MaryLou) Steinbauer, Marysville; Stephen (Tammy) Steinbauer, Clyde; Ann (Jerry) Mingus, Bellevue; Edward Paul (Sara) Steinbauer, Philadelphia, Pa; Elizabeth (Mark) Czyzewski, Lebanon, Ohio; Martha (James) Capasso, Chesapeake, Va; Virginia (Gavin) Dimitri, Melbourne, Australia; and Kenneth Steinbauer, Clyde. Twenty seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive as do his siblings; Richard Steinbauer, Florida; Coletta (Eugene) Miller, Fremont; Thomas (Mary Ann) Steinbauer, Clyde; and James (Marian) Steinbauer, Clyde.



He was preceded in death by a great grandchild and two brothers, Carl and Robert Steinbauer.
