Lawrence L. Allen 80, of Clyde, died on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Fremont Promedica Hospital, following a brief illness.

Lawrence was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 14, 1927 to Lawrence and Esther (Heidenreich) Allen. He was a graduate of the West Tech High School in Cleveland. After graduation, he joined the United States Coast Guard.

Mr. Allen had retired from the Glidden Paint Co. in Cleveland, having been the head of security for the company. Prior to that, he had been an Ohio State Patrolman and had owned, with his wife, the former Seneca Camp Grounds (now Leafy Oaks) in Green Springs.

He was an accomplished woodworker, making numerous pieces of furniture.

On January 14, 1961, he married Bernadette Quinn. She preceded him in death in March 2002.

Survivors include their children, Kirk (Xiamei) Allen of Miamisburg, Ohio; Carrie (John) Lyons of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; Darrin Allen of Clyde and Eric Allen of Clyde. Four grandchildren, Sienna Allen; Collin Lyons; Shannon Mendez and Casey Lyons. His brother, Todd Allen survives in Brookpark, Ohio.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 11:00 am at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde. A  graveside service will be held at McPherson Cemetery at 1:15 pm.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
