Lola Jean Stigamire Tyson, 96, of Green Springs, OH, went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 17, 2017.  She was born June 12, 1920, at home in Adams Township, Seneca County, OH to the late Wella R. and Lola V. (Detterman) Stigamire.  She grew up on a farm during the Great Depression with her  brother, the late Carlton Stigamire of Fremont, OH.  During the Depression, Jean studied piano by doing housework for her teacher. Jean graduated from Green Springs High School in 1938. This was the first class to graduate from the “new school” which was razed in 2009.  For a time, Roger Young was one of her classmates.  She attended Tiffin University to study the secretarial course. The school was then known as Tiffin Business University.  After completion of her studies she worked in the offices at the Herbrand, Union Carbide, and the Sandusky County Board of Education in Fremont.  She also worked at the O & M Seed Company in Green Springs where she met her husband.  She and Alan H. Tyson of Flora Dale, PA were married September 1, 1951 in Ebenezer U.M. Church, Flat Rock, OH by the Reverend Clyde G. Huther.  Her loving husband of 42 years predeceased her in 1993.

She was a stay at home mother to her children Nancy L. (Robert Jr.) Koebel  of Fremont, OH and Ned H. Tyson of Columbus, OH, who survive.  She loved to sew, bake and can fresh vegetables from her husband’s extensive gardens.  She also had a love for our political system and was a poll worker for both Adams Twp. and Green Springs for many years. She was very active in the Union Grange and took various home economic courses through the Extension Service to improve her sewing skills.

In 1964 she went back to work part-time for the Green Springs Memorial Library, as their Clerk of the Board.  As retirements happened, she eventually studied to be a librarian through a correspondence course. She continued her work at the library after the merger with Birchard Public Library in Fremont in 1969, becoming the branch head until her retirement in 1987.  As a librarian and avid reader and lover of music she passed on her love of these to her children.  After her retirement from the library, she also worked for WSOS and also volunteered at Memorial Hospital.

As a musician, she played both the piano and organ for her church, Calvary United Methodist in Green Springs.
She was very active in Icedore Chapter #299 Order of Eastern Stars and served as Worthy Matron multiple times.  She also served as organist for the Green Springs, Clyde and Fremont Chapters.

She loved sports and was a fan of the Ohio State University, Pennsylvania State University and the Cleveland Indians and enjoyed attending games until just a couple years prior to her death.

She was a loving grandmother to Beth (Tim) Grabo of Newark, OH, Kevin (Amy) Koebel of Fremont and Robert (Tiffany) Koebel III of Fremont, and great grandmother to Matthew, Megan and Emily Grabo and Liam, Greyson, Jamison and Kaison Koebel, all of whom survive.
