Melvin J. Jones, Jr., 79, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Heritage Village in Clyde.
He was born September 6, 1938 in Detroit to Melvin J. Sr. and Catherine (Ogger) Jones. Melvin graduated from Toledo Scott High School. He worked as a press operator and inspector at Bellevue Manufacturing, until his retirement in 2000.
Melvin was a member of Seybert United Methodist Church; Bellevue Masonic Lodge #273; Bellevue Chapter; Bellevue Council; Bellevue Commandry,and Singara Grotto. He was an avid Michigan sports fan, cheering on the Wolverines, Tigers, and Red Wings. He also loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was important to him.
He is survived by his children: Roger A. Jones of Sandusky and Kristina (Tim) Batesole of Bellevue; grandchildren: Miranda Jones, Kirk (Jo) Jones, Heather (Matt) Grieves, Cory (Sally) Wetzel, Troy (Lindsey) Wetzel; eight great-grandchildren; and his siblings: George (Luann) Jones of Howell, Michigan; Peggy Jones and Billy Jones, both of Wixom, Michigan.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Samantha Jones; and his sister, Sherri Lou Jones.
Visitation will be 3-6:00pm Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St, Bellevue. Masonic services will be 6:00pm on Friday at the funeral home. His funeral service will be 10:30am Saturday, Oct. 7 at the funeral home with Pastor Lee Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue City Cemetery.
