Betty M. (Spangler) Reed

Betty M. Reed, 87, of Bellevue and Clyde, died at University of Toledo Medical Center on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.

Mrs. Reed was born in West Lebanon, Ohio on September 6, 1931 to George and Edith (Jones) Spangler.

She was a 1949 graduate of Paint Township School, attended Baldwin Wallace and then graduated from Kent State University.

In 1961, she and her family moved to Bellevue, Ohio.

Betty had been a teacher for Bellevue Schools of fourth, fifth and six grades, retiring in 1990. She was first a home economics teacher, then raised her family, returned to college and received her elementary certificate.

Mrs. Reed was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clyde; the United Methodist Women; Sandusky County Retired Teachers and the Bellevue 4-County Young at Heart. She enjoyed playing cards, reading and many crafts, including knitting. Her positive attitude and happiness were her trademark qualities.

On January 1, 1956, she married Harry A. Reed. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2005. 

Survivors include their three children, Susan (Edward) Zinni of Bellaire, Texas; Bruce A. Reed of Clyde and Thomas R. Reed of Rossford. Two grandsons, Daniel Zinni and Nick Zinni. One sister survives in Massillon, Barb Wise.

She was  preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Byron Spangler; Doyle "Cotton" Spangler; Jane Metzger; Alice Rollin and Richard Spangler.

Visitation will be on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 1-3:00pm at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday. Private family burial will be held at York Chapel Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Clyde Food Pantry or Bellevue Fish and Loaves.
