Clair L. Hackenburg, 74, of Clyde, died at Stein Hospice, Sandusky on Saturday, November 16, 2019.
Clair was born in Bellevue on September 17, 1945 to Eldon "Speck" and Alberta "Tootie" (Rohlf) Hackenburg.
In 1963, he graduated from the former York High School. He served in the US Navy in the Mediterranean during the VietNam War.
For 25 years, he worked for the Ohio Turnpike, retiring in 1996.
Mr. Hackenburg was a member of Faith Memorial Church in Sandusky, where he was fondly referred to as "the ornery usher". He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellevue dartball team.
Clair enjoyed bonfires and practical jokes. His laugh, which he used often, was his trademark.
On February 2, 1968, he married Rebecca Spencer. She, along with their four children, Deb (Matt) Robyck of Kennesau, Georgia; Matthew (Jessica) Hackenburg and Chad Hackenburg all of Bellevue and Renee' Drossman of Covington, Georgia survive. Nine grandchildren, Brooke, Morgan, Jacob, Kennedy, Nicholas, Felecia, Sam, Layne and Colt,as well as one sister, Sharon Kaye Kessler and Denny (Leslie) Hackenburg all of Bellevue, also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Terry Hackenburg.
A Celebration of Clair's Life will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 5:30 pm at Faith Memorial Church, Strub Road, Sandusky with Rev. Tom Groot officiating.
