He was born October 6, 1941 in Norwalk to Dr. Arthur A. and Gladys (Bechstein) Maike.  John graduated from Bellevue High School in 1959 and The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1965.  He spent 38 years practicing veterinary medicine, first at Drs. Maike & Mansperger, later John A. Maike, DVM.  John and Joan attended Milan Friends Church. Because of his profession, Dr. Maike was a member of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians, American Veterinary Medical Assn, Ohio Veterinary Medical Assn, North Central Ohio Veterinary Medical Assn.  For 30 years he was a part-time firefighter with the Bellevue Fire Dept. 

 

On June 30, 1973 he married Joan E. (Lamb) Maike; she survives in Bellevue.  Also surviving are their children: Tom (Jackie) Maike of Bellevue; Julie (Jason) Tackett of Ostrander; John (Laura) Maike of Burton; grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Grace, Isaac, Lucas, Peyton, Adalynn; sister, Kae Creech; and nieces: Pamela Roberts and Holly VanLente.

 

John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Tom Creech.

 

Visitation will be 4-7:00pm Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St, Bellevue.  The Bellevue Fire Department will walk through at 7:00pm.  Visitation will also be 10-11:00am Friday, September 22 at the funeral home.  His funeral service will be at 11:00am at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Campbell officiating.  Burial will follow in Bellevue City Cemetery.
