Elson L. Benfer, 93, formerly of Clyde, more recently of Tiffin, died at Tiffin Mercy Hospital on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

Elson was born in Bellevue, Ohio on July 30, 1924 to the now deceased Zeldon and Mariann (Shell) Benfer.

He was a 1942 graduate of York High School.

Mr. Benfer was a member of First United Methodist Church, Clyde, however he attended Faith United Methodist Church of Tiffin, after moving there.

He had enjoyed camping, as well as wintering in Florida where he was active in shuffleboard and bocce ball activities.

On October 4, 1946, he married Ada Eby. She preceded him in death on December 2, 2016.

Survivors include their son, Richard (Linda) Benfer of Sycamore; three grandchildren, Jonathan (Tammarrie) Benfer; Kevin (Amy) Benfer and Amie (Bill) Bonham; two great grandchildren,Jonathan, Jr. (Brittnay) Benfer and Alyssa Benfer, along with two great-great grandsons. His brothers, Harold (Ruth) Benfer of Bellevue; and Dale (Kitty) Benfer of Tiffin and sister Phyllis Downing of Florida also survive.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Decmeber 23, 2017 from 9:00 am until the service at 10:30 AM at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde. Rev. Marilyn E. Coney willofficiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Memorials maybe made to Community Hospice, Tiffin or Faith United Methodist Church, Tiffin.
