Helen Mae Hengst, 82, of Clyde, died at Stein Hospice, Sandusky on Thursday, February 9, 2017.

Mrs. Hengst was born in Clyde on October 1, 1934 to William J. and Lillian Mary (Strouse) Raifsnider. She attended Clyde Schools and was a 1952 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.

She had worked at the former Jean's Yarn Shop in Clyde.

On October 11, 1952, she married Paul L. Hengst. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1992.

Helen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Clyde and the Clyde Eagles. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. She was also fond of Bingo.

Survivors include her children, Twila Hengst of Indianapolis; Paul "Ted" (Margaret) Hengst of Leesburg, Virginia; Terri (Ron) Vargas of Clyde and Tracy Hengst of Clyde. Six grandchildren, three step granddaughters, three great grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Hengst was preceded in death by her parents and sister, June Steffen.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 4-8:00 pm at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main Street, Clyde, Ohio. The funeral will be on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Parkhurst Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Clyde or Stein Hospice.
