James H. Persons, 71 of Waterford, Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly while on vacation in Orlando, Florida on Sunday, June 10, 2018.
Mr. Persons was born in Buffalo, New York on September 14, 1946 to Estees and Caryl (Pfeffer) Persons.
He was a graduate of Holland High School in western New York. Mr. Persons was a Viet Nam Veteran and retired from the US Marine Corps reaching the rank of Master Sgt. He also retired from Rohrer Trucking in Waterford, NY as an over-the-road driver.
Jim's Military education includes Infantry weapons arms, Regimental school, Infantry training school, Disperser, Riot control agent, Fundamentals of counseling, Associate instructors course, SNCO academy extension, Recruiter school, Xerox learning systems and Recruiting mgmt.
His awards include National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medals (7 awards), Vietnam service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (1 star), Meritorious Unit Commendation (2 stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Rifle Expert Badge (3rd award), Pistol Expert Badge (2nd award). His primary specialty titles were Infantry Weapons Repairman, Marksmanship Instructor, Weapons Technician, Recruiter and Career Recruiter.
After retirement Jim was known for always proudly wearing his Marine Corps hats and shirts, and spending many mornings drinking coffee with his friends.
Survivors include his two sons and their families: Satoru (Sherry) Persons of Marengo, Ohio and Hiro (Barbara) Persons of Clyde. Five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, along with his siblings, all of New York, David (SuPok) Persons ; Gary (Donna) Persons; Caryl "Penny" (Roger) Rodgers; and Lori Persons. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Leslie Persons, and special friend Vickie Babcock,
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Estees "Sonny" Persons and an infant sister, Cindy Rae Persons.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 10:45 am at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio, Saturday, June 23, 2018. The graveside service will be at 11:00 am at McPherson Cemetery, Veteran Section on Saturday.
