John D. Maines, 72, of Clyde, died at Stein Hospice on Saturday, April 8, 2017.
 
John was born on March 27, 1945 in Bellevue to William and Eileen (Hartman) Maines.
 
He was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Clyde High School.
 
John was a former member of Clyde Exchange Club and the Clyde Heritage League. He had been a member of the Clyde Library Board during their 1994-1995 expansion project of the building.
 
As one of Clyde’s historians, John gave presentations on General James B. McPherson along with being an enthusiastic researcher of all things Clyde, Ohio.
 
Mr. Maines retired from Clyde Tool and Die as a machinist.
 
On August 15, 1964, he married Susan Doust. She preceded him in death on July 3, 2011. Their daughter, Kelly Maines preceded on May 27, 1984.
 
Survivors include a son, Mark (Heidi) Maines and grandchildren, Meriah Maines and Heath Maines all of Clyde. His father, William Maines, Clyde and sister, Judy (Dave) Dayringer, Fremont also survive.
 
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Homes, 218 South Main St., Clyde. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 3:00 pm at McPherson Cemetery.
