Mildred (Millie) N. (Misner) Oberman, age 68 years passed away after a short battle with cancer on Monday October 2, one day before turning 69. She has resided in Sarasota Florida for the past 20 years.
Millie was born on October 3, 1948 in Green Springs, Ohio to Marietta Lovina (Ernsberger) and Glenn Leo Misner.  After graduating in 1966 from Green Springs High school as their Salutatorian, she attended the Riverside School of Nursing, graduating in 1969.  She served as the class reporter, informing others of the goings on of the nursing class. Her passion remained in nursing through the various residences she held in Ohio, Idaho and Utah. Once she reached Colorado, she was able to turn her knowledge and passion for horticulture into a second career. This fostered her renewed love of gardening. Colorado is also where she met a young man named Jan who brought out the best in her and became her best friend.  Once she and Jan relocated to Sarasota, Florida, she again turned another passion into employment in working with animals and animal lovers in retail at Pet Supply Center in Sarasota. Her furry customers would leave the store with a heart full of love and a belly full of treats. In recent years she rescued several of her beloved greyhounds from retirement in racing.  She was passionate about the Greyhound rescue program through the Racing Dog Rescue Project.  Millie also loved visiting quilt stores, building her stash wherever her path lead her, accumulating a vast array of fabrics.  She enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren, along with the new babies of anyone she knew along the way. Those who knew Millie, also knew of her affection for chocolate.  To her, everything was better with chocolate.
Millie is survived by the love of her life, Jan Oberman and children; Julie (Andy) Yeater, Jennifer (Aaron) Wiese and stepchildren Seth (Aisha) Oberman and Jacob (Alison) Oberman as well as seven grandchildren; Justin Yeater, Abby Yeater, Payton Yeater, Sean Wiese, Cameron Wiese, Nadja Oberman, and  Gyasi Oberman. She is also survived by her brother Glenn (Lori) Misner and sister Chris Williams and several nieces and nephews. Her furbabies included Serena, Guido and Spot, who will deeply miss her ability to see them as equal members of the family. She was preceded in death by both of her parents.
Friends and family are welcome for visitation on Monday October 9, from 4-7pm at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home on Main St. in Clyde, Ohio with the funeral October 10, at 10:30 at Mitchell-Auxter. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Racing Dog Rescue Project at www.rdrp.org so Millie may continue to enhance the lives of retired racing greyhounds.
