Philip P. Clapp, 93, formerly of rural Fremont, more recently Valley View Assisted Living, died at Valley View on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.
Phil was born in Clyde on January 31, 1926 to the now deceased Robert C. and Dorothy (Daniels) Clapp. He spent his life in the area, attending Thompson School, then enlisting the the US Army during WWII.
Mr. Clapp had worked at the Whirlpool Corp for 36 years, retiring in 1990. He had been a Capt on the Fire Brigade.
He was a member of Grace Community Church, Fremont. He liked to work on cars, but he loved to mow lawn.
On August 9, 1947, he married Elva Pfeiffer. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2013.
Surviving are their five children, Stephen (Marsha) Clapp of Clyde; Shirley (Marvin) Meyer of Bellevue; Scott (Dorine) Clapp of Fremont; Sheila( Craig) Feick of Bellevue and Stan (Amy) Clapp of Fremont. Twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, along with three sisters, Bernadine "Bea" Riegel of Clyde; twin sister, Phyllis Meyer of Dayton and Jeannette Hansen of Clyde also survive.
Mr. Clapp was preceded in death by one granddaughter, one great granddaughter and two brothers, William Clapp and Robert Clapp.
Visitation will be on Monday May 20, 2019 from 9:30 am until the 11:30 am service at Grace Community Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, with military rites provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion.
Memorials may be made to the grounds upkeep at Grace Community Church, Smith Road, Fremont.
