Ronald Frate Obituary

Ronald M. Frate, 89, of Clyde, died at Firelands Regional Medical Center after failing health on Saturday, December 15, 2018.

Mr. Frate was born in Cleveland on June 26, 1929. He came to Clyde, Ohio when he was 12 years old and became the foster son to Henry and Ruth (Van Doren) Harrison, who lovingly raised and cared for him. He was a member of the 1947 graduating class of Clyde High School.

He joined the United States Navy, and was a cook during the Korean War. After he was discharged, he was a meat cutter at the former Dale's Market and later for a short time at  the former Latham's Store.

Mr. Frate retired in 1989, after 27 years at the Whirlpool Corp as data control operator. His position made him one of the first employees to use a computer to track inventory at the plant.

On May 7, 1955, he married Beverly J. Taylor;. She survives along with their children, Paula L. Frate of Houston, Patricia L. (Loris) Jarvis of Hershey, Pa. and Steven M. (Stefanie) Frate of  Clyde. Seven grandchildren, Harrison Frate; Allison and Michael Jarvis; Brooke Link and Loris Jarvis, Jr.; Hanna Frate and Stephanie Halm. Three great grandchildren also survive.

Ron was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Clyde. He was also a Clyde VFW and Eagle member. For 20 years, he had volunteered at the former Fremont Memorial Hospital, prior to his failing health.  He was the proud recipient of seven hole in ones in his favorite pastime of golf. Mr. Frate was a follower "through thick and thin" of the Browns. Out doors was where he would be found, mowing grass, planting tomatoes and cutting up trees.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 4-7:00 pm at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. The funeral mass will be on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
