Alice Wolfe Obituary

Alice Pickett Wolfe, daughter of Mattie (Gail) and Royce Pickett was born May 31, 1928 in Fremont and died the first day of spring, March 20,2021 at home.

At age twenty, she married Charles Henry Wolfe III at Clyde's Methodist Episcopal Church.

Alice was proud of her heritage. Her great, great grandfather, Norton Russell, walked all the way to Hamer's Corners (now Clyde) from New York. She was also related to General James B. McPherson.

A lifelong learner, she attended Oberlin College in the 1940's and graduated from Heidelberg College in 1982, with a B.A. in American Studies.

Work roles included brief teaching assignments at York and Vine Street Schools as well as teaching English as a second language at Heidelberg, where she also served as archival assistant.

Throughout her life, family came first as mother of three children: Gail Hemsoth, Art Wolfe , Mary Wallingford and five grandchildren: David Arthur, Emily Grace and Benjamin Royce Wallingford and Martin Charles and Katherine Alissa Hemsoth. All of whom she loved dearly. Also, very dear to her are her three great grandchildren, David, Joseph and Victoria Wallingford.

As a nurseryman's daughter, she was a conservationist. Bird watching became a life-long hobby. She provided her family with many examples of caring for creation.

She was a lifelong member of Clyde's First United Methodist Church. Other involvements included Progress Club, Black Swamp Bird Observatory, Audubon Society, TOPS, and Back to the Wild.

Alice was predeceased by her parents; brother, Jim; dear daughter, Mary; and her husband, Charles.

She is survived by brother, George and children, Gail and Art.

Donations may be given to Clyde's First United Methodist Church or Back to the Wild.

Private graveside service was held in March at Wales Cemetery. A memorial service will be 10:30am Saturday, July 10, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, 501 Maple Street, Clyde.
