Barbara Dewey Obituary

Barbara Dewey,75, of Clyde, died on January 19, 2021 at Riverview Nursing Home in Oak Harbor, Ohio, under the care of Heartland Hospice.

She was born April 15, 1945, to Kenneth and Martha Boehmer. 

Barbara grew up in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Eugene, Oregon. 

Barb  joined the United States Army. She went to Viet Nam in early 1967 and served her tour of duty as a nurse at the 12th Evan Hospital in Cu Chi. She was in Viet Nam during the Tet Offensive in February 1968. 

After Viet Nam, she returned to the United States and was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado, and then at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii.

She met Tom Dewey, and they were married on September 18, 1971. They went from Colorado to Korea, where they were stationed in Seoul at Eighth Army Headquarters and then to Stuttgart, Germany.

Barb and Tom have three children.  Two daughters, Marti Brown and Anne Dewey, both of Indianapolis, and their son, Ben lives in Ann Arbor. Five grandchildren, Emily Babb; Atticus Dewey, Drew and Blake Babb and Jacob Brown survive as well. Barb's sister, Beth Dickson and three brothers, Chuck Boehmer, Greg Boehmer and George Boehmer survive also.

Mrs. Dewey had worked as a school nurse in Clyde and Millersville. Then started working part-time as a nurse at Clyde Whirlpool Health Center, until she was hired fulltime, retiring in 2010.

She was a member of the Clyde Christian Church and the Promedica Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Masks are required for attendees of any and all services.  Visitation, still using the walk through, coming in the front door and leaving by the back door, will be from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. Barb's funeral service will be 1:00pm on Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Candace Seaman officiating.   At all times, masks are to be worn and social distancing maintained. A graveside service, with military rites provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion, will follow at McPherson Cemetery, Clyde. Her funeral and graveside services will be live-streamed here (on the link below) on Saturday.  A recording of the service will be available after all services have concluded.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Clyde Christian Church of The Clyde Public Library.
