Charles “Charlie” Haynes, 78, died June 13, 2020 in Firelands Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Charlie was born in Albuquerque, NM on July 2, 1941 to Frederick and Ethel Haynes. He was named in honor of his grandfather. He grew up in Earl Park, Indiana, and graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana. He joined the Marine Corps and served four years, most of them at Marine Corp Air Station Cherry Point where he was assigned to the weather station. He was a Marine, through and through. Semper Fi
Charlie lived many years in New Bern, NC, working at Texas Gulf Sulfur and New Bern Electric, where he knew all about electrical parts, a talent he brought to Sandusky Electric when he moved here. He has been a resident of the Ohio Veteran’s Home for several years. Charlie was an avid reader, and he loved history; his favorite subject was military history, and, his interests were varied and intense. One of his joys was learning and using new words, a gift from his mother who required her children to learn a new word each week and how to spell, define, and use it in sentences.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Haynes Olsen, who lives in Bellevue, and his two daughters, Missy Haynes Dixon and Crystal Gayle Buck, both of New Bern. Surviving also are his grandchildren, Ethan Ryan Dixon, Reagan Danielle Dixon, and Allan, Justin, Trever and Jared Price. Niece, Nancy Olsen King, and nephews, Daniel and Erik Olsen, also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Haynes. Rest In Peace, Little Brother.
