Chelcer D. Matter, 89, of Clyde, died at his home on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
Chelcer was born in Clyde on May 23, 1932 to the now deceased Grayce (Tressler) and Uriah C. Matter.
He was a 1951 graduate of Clyde High School, where he was active in football, basketball, track and FFA. Mr. Matter entered the US Army in 1953 and was discharged in 1955.
After 37.5 years, Chelcer retired from Whirlpool in 1988 as a maintenance planner.
His memberships included the Clyde First United Methodist Church; the Whirlpool management Club, Four County Young at Heart and formerly the Clyde Exchange Club.
On May 1, 1955, he married Shirley Morgenstern. They were able to celebrate their 66th anniversary this year. She survives, along with their three daughters, Chris (Brent) Anderson of Champaign, Illinois; Pat (Bob) Jaffie of Ocala, Florida and Kathy (Larry) Peterson of Omaha, Nebraska. Nine grandchildren, Jason Kohlenberg; Kristi (Brad) McDuffie; Phillip Kohlenberg; Eric (Lisa) Kohlenberg; Rachel Jaffie; David (Stephanie) Jeffie; Nicholas Gilreath; Nolan Gilreath and Maggie Peterson, along with six great grandchildren, Alex, Riley, Alyssa, Braedan, Kaelan and Zaylee also survive. His two sisters, Joy Lynn Lewis of Fremont and Gloria Conner of Castalia, along with one brother, Merlin Matter of Hendersonville, NC survive as well.
Mr. Matter was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Reinbolt and two brothers, Jerry Matter and Wayne Matter.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 9:00 am until the service at 11:00 am at Clyde First United Methodist Church. A funeral luncheon will immediately follow the service.
