Clifton L. Rose, 90, formerly of Bellevue, Ohio, and more recently of New Haven, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Mercy Willard Hospital.
Clif was born in Athens, Alabama on September 10, 1931 to the late Trudie (Rose) Raney. He was raised in Limestone County, Alabama until his enlistment into the United States Army on August 20, 1946 in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Clif received the World War II Victory Medal and the Occupation Medal during his time in the service. Clif was a Private in the 82nd and the 101st Airborne Divisions before his Honorable Discharge in July 1949.
On July 30, 1951, Clif married Betty F. (Embry) Rose in Corinth, Mississippi. He is survived by two daughters; Monica Kovacs of New Haven, Ohio and Sonia (Donald) Elliott of Richmond, Virginia. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Justin (Crystal) Kovacs, Jynelle (Shane) Rex, and Christopher (Alexis) Rose; six great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and one brother, Dennis Raney of Moulton, Alabama.
Mr. Rose was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and their son, Gregory Rose.
Clifton was a retired Yardmaster with Norfolk & Southern Railroad in Bellevue, Ohio. Because of his career, Clif was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. He was also a member of the Church of Christ and a long-time member of Woodmen of the World. He was an avid rock hound and went on many digs throughout the country. He began his own business, Clif’s Rock & Gem, while living in Coshocton, Ohio and later became a member of the Mid-Ohio Mineral & Fossil Club. Clif joined the Bellevue Fraternal Order of Eagles #490 in 1998 and remained an active member to date. Golfing, boating, and gardening were among some of his other favorite pastimes.
People will remember Clif’s humor and his love for life. He was a people person and knew no stranger. He had a knack for getting to know each and every person that ever had the privilege of being his neighbor and will be missed by many.
Visitation will be Noon-2:00pm Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St, Bellevue. His funeral service will follow at 2:00pm Thursday at the funeral home.
