Donald A. Durnwald, 91, of rural Fremont, died at Parkview Care Center in Fremont, on Thursday, February 11, 2021.
Don was born in Riley Township, Sandusky County on February 3, 1930 to Edward and Loretta (Schaffer) Durnwald.
He had attended Riley's one room school house from 1935-1943, then St. Joseph High School.
Mr. Durnwald belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Don had worked at Whirlpool for many years as an engineer, prior to his retirement.
He enjoyed camping and working. Don was always busy with a "project" that he completed with great care and precision.
Mr. Durnwald served in the United States Army from 1951-1953.
On November 28, 1953, he married Marilyn Smola. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2004.
His survivors include three sons, Donald E. Durnwald of Fremont; Tom (Cathy) Durnwald of Pennsylvania and Michael (Connie) Durnwald of Fremont. One grandson, Rob Durnwald and one granddaughter, Ashley (Mitch) Robles, along with one great granddaughter, Brookllyn Robles. A sister, Dorothy Darr of Fremont, survives as well.
His siblings, Herbert Durnwald; twin sisters, Louise Young and Luella Smith; Naomi Frankert and Alice Wagner are all deceased, as are his parents.
Visitation, following mask wearing and social distancing, will be on Sunday, February 14, 2021 from 2-4:00pm at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde. A funeral service will be on Monday, February 15, 2021 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Fremont.
