Donald R. Sumpter, 70, of Fremont, died at his home on Saturday, July 14, 2018.
Don was born in Inez, Kentucky on December 5, 1947 to William Lloyd and Mary Louise (Spears) Sumpter.
He was a member of the Fremont Eagles and Fremont Senior Center.
Mr. Sumpter was a Vietnam Veteran, having received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars; Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Don had worked at Ever Ready prior to it's closing, then for Graham Packaging before retiring in January 2010.
On October 20, 1990, he married the former Sharon Beddow. She along with six children survive, Tonia Lutz of Millbury; Donald "Jake" Sumpter of Joshua, Texas; Martricia Lee of Clyde; Shawn Beddow (Vicki Looper of Phoenix, AZ; Becky Turnley of Bellevue and Scott Sams of Fremont. Also twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren and siblings, Rhonda (Ray) White of Monroeville; and Terry (Nancy) Sumpter of Sandusky survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Oretha Armendariz.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 4-7:00 pm at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. The Fremont Eagles will have a service at 7:00 pm on Thursday. The funeral will be at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery with military rites provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion.
