Doris Block Obituary

Doris A. Block passed away peacefully on December 10, 2020 at The Willows of Bellevue, at the age of 99.

Doris was born on May 7, 1921 to George and Dorothy Polley in Bellevue Ohio. She had 3 brothers. Robert (Geraldine) Polley, George (Betty) Polley, and Harley (Kathy) Polley all of Bellevue. She also had one sister Helen (Max) Stephenson of Port Clinton. All her siblings proceeded her in death along with husbands Roy H. Phillips and Wilbert J. Block.

Doris is survived by 2 step daughters, Roberta Patrick, Mansfield and Shirley (Michael) Stranksy of Ontario. She will be greatly missed by several nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.

Doris was a 1939 graduate of York High School in Bellevue and served as her class Valedictorian. Upon her graduation she attended Ohio University and then continued on at the Huron County Bankers School. She began a career in banking at Union Bank and Savings in Bellevue, and ending at First National Bank where she worked for 20 years until her retirement.

Doris was a member of St Paul’s United Church of Christ where she was very active and loved singing in the choir. While in Lexington, Ohio she was a charter member of Chi Sigma Sorority and O. E. S. Chapter.

In 1973 she and husband Roy Phillips purchased a condominium in Sun City Center Fla. moving there permanently in 1984. While in Sun City, she became a member of The United Community Church and was treasurer of the Kings Point Condo Association. She loved playing golf, was course champion, and scored 3 holes in ones. She also traveled, played the piano and the organ.

In 2016 she returned to Bellevue to be closer to family. She resided in Orchard Grove Assisted Living and then The Willows of Bellevue until her death.

A celebration of her life will be held on May 7, 2021 which would have been her 100 th birthday. Burial services will be private for family.
