Elmer J. McClanahan, 84, of Green Springs, died at Stein Hospice, Sandusky, following a brief illness on Thursday, September 19, 2019.
Elmer was born in Doran, Virginia on January 27, 1935. His parents, Charlie Caudle and Lena Kathryn (McClanahan) McClanahan are deceased.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clyde. He loved bluegrass music and was sharp at playing horseshoes. His hobby was to fix forklifts, and he enjoyed airplanes..
After 42 years, Elmer retired from Whirlpool as a fork lift repairman.
In September 1956, he married Marjorie Hintz. She, along with their five daughters, Connie McClanahan of Clyde; Kathryn Standifer of Green Springs, Karen (Tim) Coots of Republic; Carolyn McClanahan of Green Springs and Loretta (Dan) Konard survive. His son/grandson whom he raised, Daniel "Charlie" McClanahan also survives. His sister, Sue Rohrbach of Clyde and brother Arvil (Gertie) McClanahan of North Carolina survive as well. Nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive.
Mr. McClanahan was preceded in death by a grandson, Austin Stalnaker and siblings, Margie Deel; Thelma Lee; Phyllis Neiderlander; Bill McClanahan and Bobby McClanahan.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 23, 2019 from 4-7:00 pm at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. The funeral will be on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church, Clyde. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery.
