Gloria D. Horner, 76, of Bellevue passed away at The Willows Nursing Home on Monday, September 3, 2018.
Gloria was born in Coshocton, Ohio September 27, 1941 to Lee and Rose (Zurbach) Cleland. She graduated from Bloomingburg High School and The Ohio State University. She was a National 4H Fellow in Washington D.C. and served as Ohio’s very first Pork Queen. She was employed as an Erie County Extension Economist.
On August 3, 1968, she married Eugene “Gene” Horner. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2013.
The Horners moved to Bellevue in 1971 and opened “Horner’s Corners” fruit and vegetable farm. Gloria taught sixteen years, including time at the Bellevue High School. She retired from the EHOVE Career Center. She was active in the community, serving on the Bellevue library board and volunteering at the Bellevue Historical Society.
Survivors include three sons, Mark (Stacy) Horner of Medina, Kyle (Neilann) Horner of Albany, Oregon, and Brent (Daphne) Horner of Hong Kong. Five grandchildren also survive. Her sister, Emily Joanne (John) Hoover lives in Amelia Island, Florida.
Mrs. Horner was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry Cleland.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Stein Hospice.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 29, 2018, 9:30 am until the service at 11:00 am at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St, Bellevue, Ohio. A burial service at Sandhill Cemetery will immediately follow.
