Irene Y. (Urich) Bray

Irene Y. Bray, 94, of Fremont, died at Elmwood in Fremont on Monday, November 8, 2021.

Irene was born in Stratton, Ohio on April 8, 1927, the 13th of fifteen children of the now deceased, Theresa (Pillar) and Peter Urich.

She was a 1945 graduate of Toronto High School in Toronto, Ohio.

In 1960, she moved to this area. 

Mrs. Bray was a member of Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church and the former Isadore Chapter of Eastern Star in Green Springs. She had served as Worthy Matron; Deputy Grand Matron of District 5 and Grand Ruth of State Grand Chapter.. For over 60 years, she was a member of the OES. Formerly she had been a member of the Fremont Country Club.  Irene was an avid Bridge player, both in person and on line.

Mrs. Bray had been a secretary for the City of Fremont Engineer and then the Fiscal Operations Officer for Terra Tech, retiring in 1989.

On July 6, 1946, she married Norman Bray. He preceded her in death on January 7, 1993.

Surviving are three children, Dr. Elizabeth (Richard) Shepardson of Clearwater, Florida; Cynthia Bray of Fremont and William (Mary Jo) Bray of Toledo. Also six grandchildren Melanie (Chris) Downing; Robert (Libby) Murray; Bridget Murray: Colin (Sarah) Murray; Jacob Bray and Emily Bray survive, along with six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bray was the last of her siblings.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until Eastern Star services at 12:30, all at the church. Burial will be in the family plot in Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church or to the Order of Eastern Star Home in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.
