Jack E. Gurney, Sr.

Jack E. Gurney, Sr. 82, of Clyde, died at his home on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

Jack was born in Riley Township, Sandusky County, Ohio on June 7, 1938 to Peter Paul and Helen Gertrude (Overmyer) Gurney.

He started school at York School, then he attended Scipio Republic School. 

For over thirty-five years, Jack drove truck, retiring from C.J. Rogers. He had driven for other firms as well.

On April 2, 1957, he married Sandra Lee Fultz. Jack and Sandra had three children before she died on November 23, 1975.

February 10, 1979, he married the former Helen Schoch. She survives, along with his children, Jack, Jr. "Jake" (Rebecca) Gurney of Temperance, Michigan; John Gurney of Clyde and Heidi (Mark) Smith, of Clyde. Also surviving are step children, Charles  (Kathleen) Hermes of Clyde; Susan Hermes of Fremont and Timothy Hermes of Clyde, seven grandchildren, Jack III; Joseph Lee; Emilee; Nicole; Danny; Sandra and Jacqueline; seven step-grandchildren, Trenton; Tim; Tyson; Tori; Caitlyn; Tiffany and Kristin. Eight great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren, along with his siblings, Shirley Sherman of Clyde; Betty Zollner of Toledo; Mary Waters of North Carolina; Cliff (Nancy Gurney of Lakeside; Larry (Bev) Gurney of Sycamore and Tom (Sarah) Gurney of Findlay, HIs sister-in-law, Mary Gurney survives in Kenton.

Mr. Gurney was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Valerie Sue, in infancy; a step daughter, Kathleen Hermes; a grandson, Taylor Gurney and a brother, Richard Gurney.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. Burial will be in Farewell Retreat Cemetery in Republic.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
