James Henry Volk passed away at the age of 95 years on Saturday, April 2,2022.
He was born on July 29,1926 to Howard and Ernestine (Metzger) Volk in Bucyrus, Ohio.
James graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1944 and soon after entered the United States Navy. He was in the Pacific theater, in Japan during the end of WWII.
In the Navy, he was a machinist and also trained in refrigeration. After WWII, James graduated from the Industrial Training Institute of Chicago in 1947 and became an electrician.
He returned to Ohio and married Jeannette Witcher on October 30,1948. Together with Jeannette, James ran Volk Electric in Bellevue, Ohio. James also worked at farming and raising Charolais beef cattle.
During retirement (?!), James and Jeannette built their second home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
James was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1238 in Bellevue and the American Legion in Sandusky.
Mr. Volk enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and German Shepherds: Sally I, Sally II and Sally III.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannett, their baby girl, his sister, Dorothy; brother, Frederick and parents.
Survivors are his son, Michael (Melanie) Volk from Bellevue, along with grandchildren, Chad (Joe) Volk of Raleigh, North Carolina; Zac (Shelby) Volk of Bellevue and Gretchen Volk (Brian Warner) of Sandusky. He has eight great-grandchildren, River Volk, Opal Volk, Timber Volk, Daisy Volk, Estella Edwards, Silas Edwards, Ledon Warner and Zoey Warner. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews in Bucyrus, Maryland and Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be held on a date to be announced at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
