Janet L. Shetzer, 89, died at her home in Clyde on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
Janet was born on August 15, 1934 to the now deceased Lucille (Murphy) and Dorr Scheerer, Sr.
She was a 1953 graduate of Clyde High School, where she had been a cheerleader.
Mrs. Shetzer was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde. She had liked to golf, and fish, but her very favorite activity was anything sport related! She had been able to visit four different Cleveland Indians Stadiums. As a young girl, she would attend the first game, purchase a score book and then listen on the radio and keep the book! She absolutely LOVED the Indians, listening to every game, watching them on TV and discussing the play with her sons. For many years, she had kept the scorebook for her son’s team, and then continued with her grandchildren.
Being the mother of five boys, she naturally was a great cook.
Janet had worked in her mother-in-law’s laundry, then later at Flat Rock Children’s Home for 16 years.
She married Leland “Lee” E. Shetzer on September 19, 1953. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2017.
Her survivors include three sons, Mark (Teresa) Shetzer of Attica; Joseph (Connie) Shetzer of Clyde and Kevin (Lori) Shetzer of Clyde. One daughter-in-law, Jody Shetzer of Green Springs along with, eight grandchildren, Nikki, Danielle; Brooke, Leanne; Jared, Brittany; Paige and Ryan, along with ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren survive. Her brother, Dean (Sandy) Scheerer of Clyde and sister-in-law, Pat Scheerer of Clyde also survive. Lee’s siblings, Ardis (Dennis) Curliss of Fremont; Dick (Susan) Shetzer of North Carolina; Ann Shetzer of Fremont and Ralph (Linda) Shetzer of Clyde are all living.
Preceding her in death were two sons, James Shetzer in 1975 and Dan Shetzer in 2018, a great grandson, her brother, Dorr Scheerer, Jr. and sister, Shirley Heft.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:00 at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. The funeral will be on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Western Reserve Hospice or St. Jude’s or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
