LaDonna (Allen) Smart

LaDonna Smart, 95, of Clyde, died at Promedica Hospital, Fremont on Thursday, January 13,2022.

LaDonna was born in Clyde on August 6,1926 to the now deceased Helen (Stoner) and Dale Allen.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clyde for many years. Mrs. Smart had been a Sunday School teacher, a circle leader and a contributor to pot luck dinners. She was also a Red Cross Volunteer and Clyde food pantry for a long time.

In 1944, she graduated from the former Townsend High School. Then she entered the United States Cadet Nurse Corps to begin her long nursing career. Mrs. Smart became a Registered Nurse in 1947 through the Toledo Hospital. She retired from the Bellevue Hospital as a nurse.

On August 31,1947, she married John C. Smart. He preceded her in death on August 3,1997.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Earl) George of Napoleon; Gail Smart-Taylor of Clyde and Joann Toy of Clyde and a son-in-law, Rev. William Sherry of Defiance. Ten grandchildren, Christopher; Dawn; Jennifer; Matthew; Andrew; Christopher; Michaell; Anthong; Felicia and Justin, along with seven great grandchildren also survive. Her three sisters, Rev. Virginia Park, Carol (Michael) Crone all of Port Clinton; Margaret (Kenneth) Andersen of Huron and a brother, Robert (Judy) Allen of Port Clinton survive as well. 

Mrs. Smart was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sherry, four brothers, Donald Allen; Ralph Allen; Richard Allen and Thomas Allen and one sister, Deborah Matthei.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 19,2022 from 10:00 am until the service at 11:30 am at First United Methodist Church, Clyde, Ohio. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. The family requests that masks be worn at all times.
