Lytle N. "Gug" Keegan Obituary

Lytle N. "Gug" Keegan, 87, of rural Clyde, died Saturday, November 2, 2019 at his home.
 
He was born January 26, 1932 in rural Sandusky County to Frederick J. & Bessie (Opper) Keegan.  Gug attended Green Spring School and was an over-the-road truck driver.  He then worked in maintenance at Wahl Refractories and later retired from maintenance at Kelsey Hayes.
 
Gug enjoyed sprint car racing, owning and driving many cars over the years.  His success on the track began in 1954 when he won the Stricktly Stock Championship.  In 1955 he was the Modified Division Champion.  1967 he won his first Sprint Car Championship; then back-to-back year wins in 1974 & 75.  Through his career he accumulated 62 feature wins.  He was honored to be inducted in the first class at the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame in 2009.  When he wasn't racing, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially coon hunting.
 
On April 10, 1953 he married RuthAnn B. (Twiss); she preceded him in death on January 19, 1990. 
 
Survivors include their children: Cathy (Mike) Tillman of Toledo; Willie Keegan of Clyde; Anne (Jim) Billow of Fremont; Laurie (Greg) Armbruster of Fremont; Cheri (Ron) Grieger of 29 Palms, California; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
 
Gug was the baby of his family and the last of his generation.  He was preceded in death by his siblings: Mervin Keegan; Opal Hoke; Voledia Otto; Alva "Ed" Keegan; Harvey Keegan; Ivan "Paul" Keegan; Rolland Keegan; Helen Nye; Bertha Cook; Doris Franks; two infant siblings: Sterling Keegan and Eileen Keegan; and a great grandson, Brantley Kyle Kimmet.
 
Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8pm Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 218 South Main Street, Clyde.  His funeral service will be 10:30am Wednesday, November 6 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
 
Memorial contributions may be given to a Humane Society of the donor's choice.
