She was born September 2, 1923 in Cardiff, Wales, UK to John Benn and Ethel (Grisdale) Brown. Her father was the Manager of the Gunnery Dept. of Vickers-Armstrong Shipyards in Barrow-in-Furness England where many of Britain’s war ships were built during WWII. She was just a teenager when WWII broke out and lived through the bombing, rationing and the London “Blitz”.
She met Capt. F. Robert Segna in England in May of 1942 while selling tickets to a fireman’s ball and began dating. After F. Robert was shipped to France they kept in touch by mail. They married September 18, 1946 in Barrow. After the war ended, she lived with her husband in France & Germany until returning to the US in late 1947. While still in the service F. Robert suffered a brain aneurysm and was medically retired and the couple settled in Bellevue in 1953.
She graduated from Croslands School for Girls in 1939. Growing up in England she withstood that country’s suffering during the 7 years of war, losing relatives in combat, the bombing of her father’s shipyard, served as an air raid warden and survived the siege of London by Nazi bombing. Coming to America as a young bride she adapted to a new way of life far removed from her native land and relatives.
Marjorie was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the Sorosis, Garden Club, Lions Club and volunteered in the Hospital Gift Shop for years. She enjoyed reading and belonging to various bridge clubs. The family matriarch, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
