Paul E. Shoemaker, 82, of Bellevue died on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at The Willows in Bellevue.
Paul was born in McCutchenville, Ohio on April 24, 1938 to the now deceased Marlin and Helen (Albert) Shoemaker.
He was a member of the 1956 graduating class of the Bellevue High School.
Mr. Shoemaker was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, along with the FOP and the Bellevue Eagles.
Paul was a baseball enthusiast. He loved the Yankees! Along with his son-in-law, Mark, collecting all kinds of sports memorabilia, even attending inductions into the Hall of Fame in Canton. His woodworking skills were evident in his greatest achievement of the cherry grandfather's clock he made. From cutting down the tree to the final polish, Paul did it all in his perfectionist way.
Mr. Shoemaker had worked at the former GE and New Departure plants, prior to becoming a Bellevue Police Officer in 1971. He retired from Bellevue in 1996, then became Chief in Bay View until 2001. Throughout this tenure, he had worked part time for Green Springs Police.
On April 27, 1957, he married Theresa DeLiberto. She, along with their three children, Jeff (Karla) Shoemaker of Toledo; Jill (Mark) Buhrow of Maumee and Joan (Dennis) Hosang of Rockford,,Illinois survive. Seven grandchildren, Theresa, Dixie; Stephanie (Tony); Jessica (Tom); Melissa (Jack); Nicholas (Monika) and Lauren as well as five great grandchildren Tommy and Elaina Vitro; Evelyn and Oliva McEwan; and Amelia Hosang also survive. Two sisters, Carolyn Lemaster of Bellevue and Joyce Stockman of Tyler, Texas, and sister-in-law, Pat Shoemaker of Bellevue are surviving.
Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Shoemaker and Richard Shoemaker.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 3-5:00 pm at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia Street, Bellevue. Social distancing and mask wear are to be observed. The funeral mass will be on Wednesday February 10, 2021 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bellevue, where the same covid restrictions apply. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bellevue.
Memorials may be made, if desired, to the Willows Activity Fund.
