Rosalie "Poe" Hahl Obituary

Rosalie “Poe” Eileen Hahl was born on March 7, 1952 in Willard, Ohio, and she died at home on November 22.  Born to Paul and Doris Delahunty, she was the oldest of three. Poe's childhood was filled with long car trips to California to visit extended family, with evenings spent listening to her mom and grandma playing the piano, and with many afternoons with cousins spent playing Red Rover and other games in the yard.

After high school, Poe attended Sandusky School of Practical Nursing, where she became a licensed practical nurse.  She worked at both Willard and Bellevue Hospitals and later spent 38 years working at Life Stages Medical Clinic, which eventually became NOMS.  It wasn’t uncommon at all for her family to be out shopping or at church only to be approached by one of her patients; never one to turn down conversation, the family would wait while Poe and the patient chatted back and forth.

On October 14, 1972, Poe married Leo, her high school sweetheart, at St. Peter and Paul Church in Attica.  They had three daughters together, Jennifer, Shannon, and Erin, and of all her loves, ranging from iced tea to chapstick, it was her family that she loved most.  From here on out, most everything she did was connected to her family. For many years, Poe was a CCD teacher, she helped to lead confirmation, and she was a faithful Girl Scout leader. She also spent hours upon hours with her grandchildren, as she delighted in them more than anything. When her daughters were old enough for sports and band, she was present at every game and concert possible, and she continued with this practice up until the very end.  When Poe learned her time was limited, one of the first things she asked was if she would be able to make it to her granddaughter’s final volleyball game of the season.  Her presence in the stands will be missed.

Poe was also very social, often spending weekend nights gathered around a table, with Leo and friends from many different parts of her life.  It was always a good night to play Euchre, Five Crowns, or Dominoes, unless, of course, she lost.  She was a social butterfly, who loved being in the company of dear friends, and as her cancer progressed, it was this community of family and friends that held her and her family through the ups and downs. Poe loved to laugh, she was a master at asking questions and tracking details in other people’s lives, and she came to life whenever a good story was told. She was memorable in so many ways.

Poe was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Paul Delahunty, her brother, Bruce Delahunty, and her special aunt, Mary Jean Alban.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Hahl, daughters Jennifer Holmer (Tim), Shannon Poulson (Larry), and Erin Hahl (Rachel Knoke), and grandchildren Lathan, Alaina, Reed, Teddy, Mahni, and Youvika. Her brother, David Delahunty, also survives her.
