Walter Auxter Obituary

Walter E. Auxter, 100, died on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

On December 15, 1919, he was born in Fremont to Perry David and May Clara (Decker) Auxter.

A member of the Fremont Ross graduating class or 1938, Walt then served in the US Army during WWII from 1941 until 1945.

Walter was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde; the National Funeral Directors Association; Ohio Funeral Director Association; Ohio Embalmers Association; American Legion Post 138, past commander and life member; Clyde VFW 3343, life member; 40-8 Sandusky County; DAV life member; Monticello Blue Lodge; Scottish Rite Consistory of Toledo; Zenobia Shrine of Toledo; Legion of Honor of Toledo; Minute Men Firing Squad. He was a retired member of the board of directors at the former Clyde Savings Bank; and a former member of 52 years and past president of Kiwanis Club.

Walt was the former owner of the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde, being and embalmer and funeral director for over sixty years.

On August 5, 1945, he married Melverna "Mickey" Smith. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2018.

Three children, Diane (John) Avers, Dean (Melinda) Auxter all of Clyde and Daniel (Karen) Auxter of Fremont survive. His five grandchildren, Hannah (James) Mapus; Eric (Emily) Avers; Andrea (Elias) Pschernig; Meredith (Casey) Filas and Adam Auxter; five great grandchildren, Claire; Lyla; Brynn; Macy and Evan also survive.

His three sisters, Alice (Walter) Heflinger; Viola (Richard) Sprunk and Ardella (Willis) Posey are all deceased.

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 22, 2020 from 2-5:00pm at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. At 5:00 pm the Monticello Lodge will have a short service. The funeral will be on Monday, March 23, 2020 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery with military rites provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion.

Memorials may be made to the Donor's Choice of charity.

The family wants to thank all  that remembered Walt's 100th birthday. It was a wonderful event that Walt truly enjoyed.
