William "Bill" D. Clapp, 73, of rural Clyde, died at his home on Tuesday, January 12, 2021,
Bill was born in Bellevue on October 31, 1947 to the now deceased William Howard and LaVonne (Keller) Clapp.
He was a member of the former Thompson High School graduating class of 1966, after attending Flat Rock school.
On October 4, 1966, he joined the United State Navy and served in the Viet Nam War.
Bill was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Flat Rock. He enjoyed all things outdoors; hunting, fishing; camping, trapping archery; and racing, both late model and sprint. He was a bowler and liked basketball, so all in all, Bill enjoyed life.
Mr. Clapp retired in 2006 from the Norfolk Southern Railroad as a carsman and wreck master.
Bill married Kathy Jenkins on March 25, 1967. She, along with their three children, Kimberly (James) West; William D. Jr. (Stacy) Clapp and Kelly (James) Willey all of Flat Rock, Ohio. Also surviving are are eleven grandchildren, Katrina (John) Stuart; Skyler (William) Simpkins; Logan West; Tyler Clapp (fiancee' Jacob Aaron); Haley Clapp (Tony Alverez); William R. Clapp; Jamie Willey; Alivia Frost (Zach Adams); Andrew Frost (Rachel Pierce); Amber Willey and Aaron Willey. His sister, Marsha (Jack) Rine of Green springs and brother, Richard (Carol) Clapp of Lapeer, Michigan survive as well.
Bill was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Liston and two brothers, Ron Clapp and Michael Clapp.
A time of visitation will be on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue. A funeral will be held at 2:15pm at the funeral home and military rites will be directly following. The family suggests that hunting or racing attire be worn for the "walk through" visitation. Masks and social distancing will be observed.
Memorials may be made, if desired, may be made to the ProMedica Hospice.
