Willis "Whitey" Clark Evans

Willis "Whitey" Clark Evans, 90, Clyde, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Heritage Village of Clyde.

Whitey was born in Bellevue, Ohio on August 10, 1927 to Charles McKinley and Ella May (Davenport) Evans. He was a graduate of the Bellaire High School in 1945. He was an honorary graduate of Fremont Ross High School.

As a young man, disabled by his eyesight, Whitey was a ham radio operator for the war efforts during WWII and after for several years.

He had been an auto mechanic, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Evans was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Clyde. He was also a member of the Rest Haven Golden Agers.

Whitey had been a volunteer for Stein Hospice. He and his late wife, Charlottie, had been clowns for various activities over the years.

In 1949, he married Ernestine Burnett, she preceded him in death in September 1963. On December 6, 1963, he married Charlottie Jane Dixon. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2014.

Survivors include five children, Linda (Lars) Johansson of Akron; Ford (Mary) Evans of Sandusky; Georgia Clark of Haleyville, Alabama; Erin (Charles) Leber of Clyde and Terry Smith of Lorain. Eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren and three great-great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcia Costello and brother, Paul Evans.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 10:00 am until the service at 11:00 am at the Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue, Ohio. Pastor Rose Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Tew Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Flat Rock Children's Home or Erie County Senior Center.
