On March 5th, 2017 Joyce Marie Breckler Rhoades of Bellevue, Ohio died peacefully with her family by her side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born April 12th, 1938 in Arthur, Ohio to George J. and A. Pauline (Blakeslee) Breckler. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Ayersville High School in 1956. She worked as a secretary at First Federal of Defiance where she met her husband. She married Lawrence R. Rhoades of Mt. Victory, Ohio on June 16th 1963 in Arthur, Ohio. They moved to Bellevue in March of 1964. She retired from the Bellevue City Schools where she worked as a teacher’s aide and a secretary.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, children Blake (Amy) Rhoades of Bellevue, Scott Rhoades of Strongsville, Ohio and Kara (Tim) Seamon of Bellevue;
grandchildren Grace, Sarah, Anna, and Lilly Rhoades; and Raquelle and Breckin Seamon. A sister Mary Kathryn (Don) Williams and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law Kenneth Rhoades.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bellevue where she was a Sunday school teacher and active member of the women’s group. She participated in Stephen’s Ministry and joined Larry on his mission trips with Red Bird Mission in Kentucky. She was a volunteer for the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Flat Rock Children’s Home and Fish and Loaves. She and Larry made weekly trips to pick up food for the local food bank.
She loved to travel and had been to 49 of the 50 states. She enjoyed reading and genealogy and spent hours researching her ancestry. She was happiest when she was outside and loved
to plant flowers and tend to her garden. Her true love was spending time with her family.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8pm Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St, Bellevue. Her funeral service will be 10:30am Thursday, March 9 at the First United Methodist Church, 901 Northwest St, Bellevue. Rev. Justin Jump will officiate and burial will follow in Bellevue City Cemetery.
